Quality assurance checks
Check target segments for missing placeholders, formatting-tag differences, unusual length, inconsistent translations, and glossary violations.
QA checks compare each source and target segment while you edit. A finding identifies one specific condition, such as a missing placeholder or required glossary term. Findings appear in the quality panel for the selected segment and clear when the condition is corrected.
The checks
| Check | What it catches |
|---|---|
| Glossary adherence | A glossary term appears in the source, but its required translation is missing from the target. Optionally case-sensitive. |
| Formatting | Missing or mismatched inline formatting, uncertain placement of a translated styled phrase, or a previous formatting check that needs review after editing. |
| Placeholders | Variables like {0}, %s, {{name}}, or <br/> that were in the source but got lost in translation, literally. |
| Length | The target is drastically shorter or longer than the source suggests, which usually means an omission or a runaway. |
| Consistency | The same source text translated two different ways in the same document. |
| Numbers and dates | Numbers or dates in the target do not match the source. |
| Untranslated text | A target that is empty or simply copies the source. |
| Punctuation | Mismatched or doubled punctuation. |
| Forbidden terms | A term from your forbidden list appears in the target. Manage the list in Language assets (Custom List). |
| Empty target | A segment was approved with no translation. Segments nobody has translated yet are not QA issues: they show as Not translated and Next untranslated finds them. |
Where checks appear
- Each check has its own switch in the Quality section of CAT settings, along with the glossary case-sensitivity option.
- Issues appear in the quality panel of the editor with a plain-language message, and clear on the next check once the target is fixed.

What a QA finding means
A finding is a rule result, not a translation-quality score. It tells you which source and target feature differed so you can inspect it. Some differences are intentional, especially length changes, so the reviewer decides whether to edit the segment or leave it as written.
