Translation

Domains

Twelve specialized domains (legal, medical, financial, technical and more) steer the model toward the vocabulary and conventions of your field.

A domain tells the model what field it is translating for. "Discovery" means something different in a legal filing than in a research paper; "positive" means something different in a lab result than in a marketing email. Setting the domain resolves those ambiguities in favor of your field.

The domains

General (the default), Legal, Medical, Pharmaceutical, Financial, Technical, Manufacturing, Government, Marketing, Automotive, Energy, Telecommunications, and Insurance.

How to use it

1

Pick the domain in the translator or editor

The domain selector sits alongside tone and mode in the dashboard translator, and in the document settings when you upload a file. Available from the Starter plan up.

2

Let it carry through the workflow

A document keeps its domain through editing and retranslation, and TM entries remember the domain they were created under.

What a domain changes

The domain is supplied to the model as part of the translation job so ambiguous wording can be read in the intended subject context. A domain does not know your organization's preferred terms; add those decisions with a glossary.
